Who we are
About HTX420
A few Houstonians who read the fine print so you do not have to.
Why this exists
Every few months somebody in a group chat says Texas legalized weed. Sometimes it is a hemp headline, sometimes a federal one, sometimes a city ordinance in Austin. The truth is usually more specific and less exciting, and it is scattered across bill histories, agency notices and court dockets that nobody reads for fun.
So we read them. HTX420 is the page to check when you hear "did Texas legalize weed?" We track what actually changed, what is pending at the Capitol, what the medical program covers, and what it all means in Harris County, in plain English, with the official source one click away.
Our standards
- Independent. We are not affiliated with any shop, brand, dispensing organization, campaign, party, lobby group or law firm.
- Nonpartisan. We explain what laws and ballot measures do. We do not tell anyone how to vote, and we do not grade politicians.
- No paid placement. No ads, no sponsored posts, no affiliate links. Nobody can pay to be mentioned, ranked or left out.
- Sources over vibes. Every tracker entry links to the official record. Our methodology explains how we check and how we correct mistakes.
- Not a store, not a guide to buying. We never point anyone to a place to buy or use cannabis, and we cover hemp only as law.
Who we are
A small group of Houston-area people who like reading statutes more than is probably healthy. We keep our names off the site on purpose so the work stands on its sources, not on who wrote it. We do not have a newsletter, social accounts or a contact form, and that is a choice too: the site is meant to be quick to check and easy to trust.
Not legal advice
Everything on HTX420 is general information about Texas and federal law. It is not legal advice, it may not reflect the latest change in a fast-moving area, and it does not create an attorney relationship. If you are facing a charge or have a specific legal question, talk to a licensed Texas attorney. Legal aid organizations in Houston help people who cannot afford one.
